ISLAND IN THE SAND
PART XXXII
Ninety-One glided almost silently past Star’s right shoulder before she had any idea what the service robot might be doing. Her rifle was aimed, supporting Jameson’s rifle, at the same well-disguised crack which would likely open to disgorge Sly and his boys. Ninety-One did not slow or hesitate, as it ran its treads into the side of the metal wall before stopping. An implement of some sort extended out from the body of the robot and crackling fire sparked back from where the tip of the implement touched. Ninety-One ran the fiercely hot tool up and down the visible line of the door crack, which wasn’t just vaguely visible when it was done. An angry dark and smoking line replaced the crack from the deck all the way to the ceiling. The operation had taken place in only seconds. Star hadn’t even lowered her weapon before Ninety-One pulled back as if to review its work.
“Close the hatch,” Ninety-One ordered. “There is no other access to this control center that would not take hours or days to accomplish cutting through, even given all the right tools for the job.”
Sounds to me like Sly surrendered to the Distant and now wants Star to surrender to him. Fat chance in hell of that happening. But, with all the twists and turns you put into your adventurous writing, It’s anyone’s guess. I’m with Star. Not happening. Great chapter Jim. I hope this book relieves you somewhat from the pressure of 30 Day’s. God Bless
It is definitely a complex novel and story. Thanks for your loyalty in following it along and in writing about it on here Jack!!

This is shaping up to be the worst fall I’ve had in quite a few years. The Gathering was supposed to be a highlight. Maybe we could get together for a coffee when the snow gets deep.
Well, hell, it sure won’t be the same without you. I will report in detail, of course, how it goes.
We even have meeting rooms and catered food this year. Not to mention neat inexpensive New Mexico flavor rooms…
Semper fi, brother,
Jim
Chess Pieces. Interesting play, I surrender so give me your weapon??? this is becoming another “Gnarly mess” LT. Well done.
thanks a lot Glenn. Working away just finishing the next chapter. Lots of fun for me, compared to Thirty Days…
Semper fi,
Jim
Don’t disarm, Star!!!!
Not real likely, as you will see in the coming chapter tomorrow.
Thanks for your comment…
Semper fi,
Jim
And the confusion surmounts … well done Mr strauss!!
Okay…..”We surrender, so kindly turn over your rifles to us”! This should get really interesting!!!
Well done. Will be waiting, as always, for the next chapter of your brilliant writing
Thanks Jack. Wonderful analysis of that little exchange. And so many thanks for the great compliment!!!

Wow! Amazing twist!
We surrender so give us your guns. Lol… Yea right. Speaks volumes about Sly’s intentions. The next chapter should be interesting!
Great observation, Monty.
Appreciate your support in reading and sharing.
Jim
As dyslexic branches to a towering trunk, the knarled and splintered limbs do indeed, I fear…run deep. When the fruit of every answer rescinds and retracts like a snail’s extensively outreached probes upon feeling an incoming touch of the outsider’s question. Instantly sent spiraling within to the perceived safety of its own breachable shell…
Star’s unhesitant choice to remain “unconnected” with Ninety-one was surely and illogically, the “best move”! Given a back-assward purpose altered by the destruction of a Home-bound creator…God help Star and her band to immediately arrive at a Distant understanding…amidst a Sly surrender, reprogrammed accordingly to the Dyslexicon of Savants. I fully expect the unexpected wherein Ninety-One shouts, “…don’t fire Star, just pull the damned trigger, for God’s sake!”
Can’t help it…you got me again, Jim! A truly inspiring chapter…a remarkable story, and a “Great” read!
ddh
Thanks a lot, Dennis. Your praise is much appreciated and your take on the story so deep.
It truly is a deep story and it really is going somewhere but I won’t ruin it by saying a word on here.
I treasure you and your writing…and you just have to come here one day soon…
Semper fi,
Jim
Didn’t see that coming, this gets more complicated as you go along, have no idea what’s coming next, but imagine can’t be good for Star and her group.
Final Chapter of this book will be interesting.
Thanks for your input, Pete
Surrender yet want their weapons? It would appear the Distants and Jordan have something else cooked up and 91 is a fly in their ointment. Again more questions then answers LOL.
Another great chapter eager to see what happens next.
Thanks James
That certainly cleared everything up, especially the last two paragraphs. I love being lost!
Gonna miss the hell out of you in Santa fe….
Semper fi,
Jim
